Rosalina
Melaleuca Ericifolia
Rosalina Oil is a medicinal and floral scented oil which works well to fight muscle pain and inflammation, as well as bacterial skin issues such as boils, warts and herpes. It is a naturally soothing oil which can be blended with carrier oils to create nourishing moisturising oils that can be used on a daily basis.
History of Rosalina Oil
Rosalina, botanical name Melaleuca ericifolia is an Australian plant that is referred to as lavender tea tree, and has similar properties to Eucalyptus Oil, although it is considered safer. It was first discovered in the early 1920's, so its historical use isn’t vast, however it has a number of beneficial qualities due to its overall makeup, and it’s one of the few essential oils that are safe to use on children. It boasts a number of properties such as aiding restlessness, nervousness, irritability, congestion and inflammation; it also works well as a household cleaner.
Rosalina Oil is an oil that hasn’t been largely commercialised as it is currently only produced in Australia, but it’s an oil that is continuing to rise in popularity due to how safe it is, having minimum toxicity. It joins other ‘new era’ essential oils such as Boronia Oil and Mountain Pepper Oil, also native to Australia. The plant mostly grows in New South Wales and Tasmania. It is, however, an oil which can be accessed fairly easily and is relatively affordable to buy, as the process to make the oil isn’t complex.
So, what does the future look like for Rosalina Oil?
The future looks incredibly positive for Rosalina Oil! This oil is continuing to prove that it can be used for multiple issues; whether it’s medicinal, in a fragrance or in skincare, it’s rising in popularity for all the right reasons. As an Australian brand we are incredibly proud to be selling Rosalina Oil, as it’s an oil that smells great and can help with many healthcare issues. Another huge benefit of the oil is that if you are allergic to Tea Tree Oil but still want to feel the benefits of its properties, you can switch and use Rosalina Oil, as it works well for those who have an irritation to traditional Tea Tree Oil. This is definitely one to watch out for and have in your collection!
Extracting Rosalina Oil
Like many essential oils on the market, Rosalina Oil is no different. It is extracted using a process called steam distillation, which is a common way to extract essential oils from the plant or flower that it comes from. The plant is put into the steam distiller, where steam gently lifts the essential oil from it. The oil then sits on top of the water once it has condensed and cooled, where it will then be skimmed off the top and put into bottles. This is a common method as it yields a high percentage of essential oil, without compensating on the quality of the oil overall.
Can I make Rosalina Oil overall?
Providing you live in an area of Australia that grows the plant, you could technically make the oil! If you like making oils in the comfort of your own home on a regular basis, we highly recommend purchasing a steam distiller instead of renting one, as you’ll save yourself money in the long run. You can simply follow the same process that is done on a commercial scale to extract the oil. However, if you don’t have access to the plant you may find that it’s increasingly difficult to make it yourself, which in that case we’d recommend for you to purchase the oil instead! We are incredibly proud to stock Rosalina Oil at Essentially Yours and it’s an oil which has huge potential (in our opinion).

Rosalina Oil Varieties
Rosalina Oil Varieties
So far, there are only two varieties of Rosalina Oil that can be found, and these are divided by the territory that they’re grown in. Northern Rosalina Oil has an increased linalool component, making it more potent for pain relief as well as having a natural sedating effect to it, however the southern component contains less linalool so would be more suitable for those who are looking for the medicinal benefits without the added drowsiness that this variety can bring.
So, which variety of Rosalina Oil should I use?
As mentioned, it completely depends if you’re looking for an essential oil with a higher or lower linalool percentage, as this will help you make your decision. We recommend if you’re looking to use essential oils to rid yourself of anxiety, help you sleep better and relax your muscles to look for an oil that has a higher linalool component; however if this isn’t a necessity for you then it gives you a bit more free reign when shopping around! If possible, you can try out both varieties and figure out what works best for you overall.
What do you think of Rosalina Oil? Is it an essential in your collection? As always, we love hearing how you’re getting the most out of your essential oils. So, feel free to reach out and share your stories with the team today!
However, there aren’t many other differences aside from that, as there are still a number of studies being carried out on Rosalina Oil to figure out its extra qualities and benefits. We will continue to update this page as and when new varieties are discovered, so keep your eyes peeled if Rosalina Oil is one of the essential oils you want to try out in the future!

Jojoba Oil
Moisturising and rich, we love Jojoba Oil as a carrier oil specifically for facial treatments, as it mimics your skin’s natural oils and will prevent further breakouts and clogging that can be caused by other oils, particularly if you already have acne-prone or sensitive skin. Use this blend as a facial oil and massage it in as you apply.
BUY NOWCoconut Oil
Thick, creamy and nourishing, we love Coconut Oil as a carrier oil as it can work incredibly well to bring out the soothing properties of Rosalina Oil, particularly when used as a massage oil. Remember, Coconut Oil is solid at room temperature, so if you want to create a blend that you can constantly go back to, you’ll have to heat the mixture beforehand.
BUY NOWAlmond Oil
Sweet and light, Almond Oil can be used as a facial or body oil, for massage or daily use. It can be used instead of jojoba or coconut depending on which carrier oil you use the most.
BUY NOWLavender Oil
We love this oil because it blends with practically every essential oil on the market. This blend is excellent because it promotes restful sleep, and has a sedating effect overall.
BUY NOWClary Sage Oil
This blend is excellent for pain and menstrual cramps, as both clary sage and rosalina are potent pain relievers, particularly when applied topically and massaged into the skin.
BUY NOWTea Tree Oil
Rosalina Oil is very similar to tea tree, and providing you’re not allergic this can be an excellent topical blend for skincare, bacterial issues as well as working well as a household cleaner.
BUY NOWEucalyptus Oil
Similar to both tea tree and rosalina, we love this blend as it can work incredibly well to open up the airways and help a poor respiratory system. It can either be inhaled on its own or by steaming your face, and can also be mixed with petroleum jelly to make a chest rub.
BUY NOWLemon Oil
Tangy and refreshing, this is a beautiful blend either to be used as a household freshener, cleaner or it can also work in an electric diffuser to refresh a room and keep you alert and clear headed. If you want to make the fragrance less ‘fresh’ you can add in a floral scent such as lavender to give it a slightly warmer feel overall when used as a room freshener.
